Shipping Board Bureau (1933-1936)

The U.S. Shipping Board (SB 1) was established by act of Sept. 7, 1916 (39 Stat. 729). Abolished by Executive Order 6166 of June 10, 1933, and functions, including those with respect to U.S. Shipping Board Merchant Fleet Corporation were transferred to U.S. Shipping Board Bureau, Department of Commerce, effective Mar. 2, 1934. Separation of employees deferred until Sept. 30, 1933, by Executive Order 6245 of Aug. 9, 1933. Functions assumed by the U.S. Maritime Commission (MC 1) Oct. 26, 1936, pursuant to act of June 29, 1936 (49 Stat. 1985).
