The Special Collections Library recognizes that researchers may have a need to utilize archival/manuscript records with specific use restrictions. It is our intention to protect individual privacy while allowing researchers access to quantifiable information from such records. Therefore:
- Manuscripts submitted for publication and rejected by the editor/publisher will remain restricted within their respective collections for a period not to exceed fifty (50) years from the date of submission (or as close to date of submission as can be determined.)
- Access to rejected manuscripts and related documentation prior to the expiration of the fifty year restriction will be permitted only for analysis of information content or data quantification only. This information shall not identify a specific individual.
- Upon the expiration of the fifty year rule, researchers may have access to the previously restricted documentation. Any copying, citation, quotation, or publication of any material once rejected for publication is prohibited without the written permission of the author.
- Donors will be notified of the guidelines listed herein prior to acquisition of a collection containing peer-reviewed manuscripts.
- The Special Collections Library reserves the right to decline acquisition of any peer-reviewed manuscripts.
