Are you responsible for planning and implementing digitization projects at the beginning and intermediate level? Before you begin, it’s important to understand the concepts and strategies that are essential to successful implementation of your collection development or access project. Rather than a technical how-to, this seminar provides an overview of basic decisions you must make before you start and while you are developing digital collections and a digital collection repository program.

During this seminar, you will:

Discuss these basic questions: Why digitize? What to digitize? How to digitize? Who should do the digitizing? What next?

While you explore:

  • Selection criteria for digital projects;
  • Developing workflow models; and
  • Estimating the cost and resource needs for digital projects.

Case studies, real-world examples, and citations to published resources are presented in a format that allows time for questions, interaction, and discussion.

Who should attend? Archivists and others who are responsible for planning and implementing digitization projects at the beginning and intermediate level.

 ATTENDANCE LIMITED TO 30.

When asked "what aspect of the seminar was most valuable to you?"
Responses included:

  • “I really enjoyed the flexibility of the presenters in taking comments and questions from the attendees - good discussion.” —Kristy Sorensen
  • I appreciated the level of preparation to present the material in the time allotted. Material was as described. Great introduction!” —Rachel Vagts
  • “The readings and workbook inclusions of sources for difficult topics were most valuable. The case studies worked well and broke up the hours of sitting." —Erin Royal
  • “Helping me to develop a conceptual framework that will allow me to prioritize projects and workflow was most valuable. Also will hep me to justify projects to administration." —Jim Hofer
  • “The small group break outs for scenario discussion and the discussion in the large group relative to projects under way and process for implementation was most valuable to me.” —Evelyn Bonner
