Here’s your chance to receive the instruction and hands-on practice you need to bridge the digital divide. Get acquainted with the language of XML and practice with XML authoring software. This 2-day workshop covers the most up-to-date EAD version!
Upon completing this workshop, you’ll have:
- Received an overview of Extensible Markup Language;
- Examined the structure of EAD (the SAA-endorsed standard for archival finding aids;
- Marked up a finding aid;
- Explored style sheets and implementation strategies;
- Practiced encoding your own finding aid using EAD;
- Who should attend? Archivists and others who are charged with exploring and/or implementing EAD at their institution, or who want to enhance their resume.
BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED.
Attendance is limited to 25; participants may be asked to share a computer.

LOGISTICS:
The workshop will be held in W211A Pattee Library, Penn State University Park campus. The nearest airport to the Penn State campus is University Park Airport in State College, PA.
Lodging is available nearby at the Nittany Lion Inn located at 200 West Park Avenue for $107/Single and $117/Double plus tax by calling 800-233-7505. You must give the group code SOCO420 to qualify for this special rate. Reservation received after March 21, 2008 will be based on space availability and may be at a higher rate. Even if you are unsure if you will be able to attend the workshop, we recommend making a reservation at the Nittany Lion Inn as reservations can be cancelled without charge 48 hours prior to your arrival. Be aware that the Nittany Lion Inn is a five minute walk to the library. Note that the Nittany Lion Inn offers a complimentary shuttle service around campus as well as to/from the airport. The closest parking area is the Nittany Parking Deck next door to the Nittany Lion Inn; it is a five minute walk to the library. There is an hourly charge if you are not a guest of the Nittany Lion Inn.
