Founded in 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is the largest civil rights organization in the United States. "The principal objective of the
NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of minority group citizens of the United States".

NCNW was begun by Mary McLeod Bethune to unite women to secure justice. It is now a multi-faceted organization that works at local, state, national and international levels.
