Getting Started
The Pennsylvania State University Libraries collect many materials related to the study and teaching of Anthropology. Among the items that can be found at the libraries are books, maps, journals, videos, and electronic resources.
The anthropology collections reflect the focus of the Department of Anthropology, with resources particularly concentrated in archaeology, biological anthropology, and cultural anthropology. In addition, the Libraries have resources related to faculty interests, such as demography, epidemiology, genetics, family and household organization, globalization, development, warfare, gender, economics, social change, ecology, ethnicity, and religion. Chronologically, the collection covers prehistory to the present. Due to its global emphases no area studies are excluded, however there is a special emphasis on the United States, Mexico, Central & South America, and the Caribbean, among others. We collect in the English language extensively, with collections in Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese selectively.
To assist the community of Penn State faculty and students interested in exploring the field of Anthropology, this page has been developed to help you locate library resources. Since the study of Anthropology incorporates several disciplinary perspectives, materials are housed throughout the library.
The table below will help you to find the right area for browsing the shelves to obtain print materials about Anthropology. To identify specific call numbers and shelf locations search the CAT, the Penn State Libraries' online catalog.
