- chair, Committee on Expenditures on Public Buildings (Thirty-fifth Congress)
- unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1858 to the Thirty-sixth Congress
- engaged in the lumber and coal business at Philadelphia
- died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 5, 1886; internment in Highland Cemetary, Lock Haven, Clinton County, Pennsylvania
