Biographical Note

Harold J. McWhinnie (1929 - ) received his B.A.E. from the Art Institute of Chicago, 1953; M.F.A. from the University of Chicago, 1957; and Ed.D. from Stanford University, 1965. He was Professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, at the University of Maryland from 1970 until his retirement in 1997. He is an artist in ceramics.

Scope and Content

Dr. McWhinnie's collection consists of research papers on art, art education, and art theory from 1901 through 2000 and his brief comments about them. The papers include part of his work, published and unpublished. The collection is also a repository for papers, presentations and dissertations which he considered to have value to art education and theory. Specific topics include art education; aesthetics; art appreciation; art and the brain; and the uses of technology by and for art.
