Letter of Birket Foster to Crawford J. Pocock, The Hill, Surrey, 20 Feb. 1879.

This letter was tipped into the 1878 edition of Brittany, a Series of Thirty-five Sketches. Foster printed the book on his own and reportedly always had copies for sale.

This letter was written from "The Hill," Foster's home, which in 1861 he had furnished by William Morris and decorated with tapestry and stained glass by Burne-Jones. Witley was a popular suburb for English writers and artists, including such well-known figures as George Eliot.

This original manuscript is housed in the Rare Books Collection in the Pattee Library at Penn State.
