Collections in the Penn State University Archives (Paterno Library,
first floor) include a wide variety of materials about the University
and the local area. Users can consult many University and student publications,
including back issues of the Daily Collegian, La Vie, and
the Penn State undergraduate catalog back to 1859. In its role as the
archives for the University, its holdings include minutes of the Board
of Trustees' meetings, Faculty Senate documents, University administrative
records, and the papers of the Penn State Presidents and notable faculty
members. Books by Penn State faculty members and a collection of books
published by our University Press are also housed here.
A large collection of photographs and portraits going back to daguerreotypes
of the first students and their mules in front of Old Main is available.
Films produced by Penn State and videotapes of a number of WPSX television
programs and intercollegiate athletic researchers. There are also cartographic
materials available for viewing by researchers. There are also cartographic
materials available such as campus and local maps and floor plans for
campus buildings.
Some of the items in the collection can be found in the Penn State Libraries
Catalog, "The Cat," but any question dealing with the University or Centre
County is worth a visit to the University Archives. Materials do not circulate
and must be used in the room, although photocopy services are available.
