What hours
is Special Collections open?
Where
is Special Collections Located?
The
Special Collections Library is located on the first floor of the Paterno
Library on Penn State's University Park Campus. Enter the library using
the East Entrance, along Curtin Road, turn left and you will walk directly
into Special Collections. See the Library Maps page to locate Special
Collections in the building
and the Paterno Library on the campus.
How
do I travel to the University Park Campus?
Out-of-town
visitors can reach the University Park campus by regularly scheduled major
airlines' commuter flights to the University Park Airport (SCE), or by
regularly scheduled Greyhound and Fullington bus service. Amtrak service
is available at Lewistown, 45 minutes away, but there is no public transit
between Lewistown and State College so train travelers must make their
own connecting arrangements. Maps and directions for driving, and connections
to air and bus carriers are available on the campus
maps Web page.
Where
can I park?
Centre
Area Transit Authority (CATA), in cooperation with the University, provides
ample community bus service along a variety of routes. Many of them stop
at Pattee Library and Paterno Library along Curtin Road. Free Loop
buses and shuttles can take visitors to downtown State College
or to other spots on campus. Orange and white CATA buses travel further
out in the community and charge an exact fare. Routes, schedules, and
fare information are available on the CATA
Web page
Where
can I eat?
MacKinnon's,
Pattee Library's coffee shop, serves hot and cold drinks, pastries, sandwiches,
soups, and salads. Also close to the Library are Otto's Café in
the Kern Graduate Union Building and Café Laura, in the Mateer
Building , all described on the Campus
Restaurants Web page. Area restaurants are described on
the Central Pennsylvania Visitors
and Convention Bureau Web page.
Where
can I stay if I am visiting the campus?
The
University's two on-campus hotels are described on the Hospitality
Services web page. The Nittany Lion Inn is within easy
walking distance of Paterno Library and Pattee Library, as are several
downtown establishments. The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel has a
free shuttle to central campus. Motels and hotels in the community can
be found at the Central Pennsylvania Visitors
and Convention Bureau page.
Is
Special Collections accessible to people with disabilities?
The
East Entrance to the Paterno Library is an accessible entrance and there
are no barriers that would impede access to the Special Collections Library.
Researchers with disabilities can be provided with individualized, flexible
services and resources. The Special Collections Library works with the
Office
of Library Services for People with Disabilities to meet
special needs.
