Deletable Bibliographic Fields

The following has been provided by Cataloging Training. It is a list of fields and their corresponding treatment when FastCatting and SmartPorting. All Acquisitions staff should adhere to these guidelines.

  • 019 - Delete when incoming from OCLC; Usually a string of numbers; Do not delete local processing notes, which we put locally in 019s, or MARS 019s
  • 029 - Delete when importing a record; Annex uses this field for shelf locations locally
  • Delete 035s from incoming records that are NOT OCLC numbers; do not delete Sirsi numbers (If it's hard to tell, just don't delete any 035s period.)
  • 263 - Delete
  • 590s from Gobi records having all uppercase info in them can be deleted. They remain in records that are replaced out of order at the bottom.
  • Duplicate 856s - can be deleted.
