  1. General Information
  2. This section deals only with MLP (i.e., minimum level processing) call numbers.

    1. Definition
    2. MLP records do not usually contain a complete LC call number unless the item is part of a series that is cataloged separately and classed together. Instead, a system generated call number may be input into the Call Number box for MLP items, which are then referred. The Library, barcode number (i.e., Item ID) and Item Type are updated in the Vol/Copy record with the Home Location left as INPROCESS. When the item is fully cataloged, the system generated call number will be replaced by an LC call number, or other call number as appropriate.

      Complete LC call number:
      DA333.A2F73 1992

      MLP call number:
      XX(2434967.1)

    3. Source of Information
    4. The source of information is the order form and the item.

  3. Copy Info
  4. The Home Location field in the Copy portion of the Vol/Copy record will contain the shelf location of an item. In Cataloging, updating this field will be performed by CatMarking staff, except for shelf ready items that do not need to be remarked. Each copy of an item will have its own copy (i.e., item) record.

    1. Library and Home Location
    2. The Library location and Home Location are given on the order form, flier or Innovaq printout. When no Home Location is indicated, UP-PAT is assumed to be the Library location with one of the stacks areas as the Home Location.

A listing of all Libraries/Home Locations can be found online in the Home Location/Marking Description List.

    3. Barcode Number, or, Item ID
    4. Include the initial zeros of a barcode number if manually keying it in. Disregard the initial letter.

    6. Multiple copies for the same location are given their own copy, or item, records.
