Looseleafs

Serial looseleaf items should go to Beth Pfeiffer of the Serials Cataloging Team; however, she reports that most of those are ordered and received by the Serials Dept., and do not make their way to Cataloging. According to Beth, a serial looseleaf will have numbered sections added rather than just single pages. These sections will be published on a regular basis.

Beth sent us the following instructions for mono looseleaf items:

If the item is published in a three-ring binder and is not meant to be updated, it is a regular monograph (check the preface or introduction for this information). Many times, OCLC copy will call these items looseleaf in the 300 field. Remove that information and construct a 300 field in the usual way. Also remove any 500 notes pertaining to a looseleaf publication.

A monographic looseleaf is an item that is meant to be updated, either by revised pages or supplements (again, you can find this information in the preface or the introduction). The 300 field should read:

1 v. (looseleaf) |bill. |c30 cm.

Common 500 notes found on copy are:

Looseleaf for updating (ok to accept).
