  2. The 019 field may contain permanent processing instructions added by Cataloging personnel (e.g., how to handle difficult material, cat as sep, class tog. decisions, etc.), temporary information to be deleted at a later date (e.g., whom to give a recalled item for re-marking, etc.), and/or other instructions deemed necessary to communicate information on the handling of a record/item.

    019Give to ABC for re-marking.
    019*** Although both subseries are cat as serials (Documentary series & Yearbook), the main series: Dictionary of literary biography, is cat as sep. It is classed together for: at, MA, SL under: PS221.D5 v.__. It is classed sep for all other CES locations. Series as a.e. with ; v.__.

    An 019 is also used to indicate that a record has been sent out for authority cleanup. It will contain MARS when that is the case, which should be retained in the bib record. (See Authority Control Policies and Procedures.)

    2. Follow instructions given in 019 notes.

      Add an 019 as necessary for permanent processing instructions. Include your initials and the date in the note.

      Items Cataloged as Monographs when a Valid Serial Record is Present in The Cat

      This is sometimes done intentionally and/or by the request of a selector. These records will contain an 019 input by the Serials Cataloging Team stating that the treatment was intentional. No further questioning is necessary.

    3. LC, OCLC, GPO, RLIN
    4. Delete 019s from imported copy.

      OCLC copy in particular often contains an 019 with a string of numbers that should be deleted when importing the record.

    5. Latest Edition Only
    6. Records for documents may contain an 019 stating:

      019Keep latest ed. only. Update record to match new ed.

      "Latest edition only" notes may also appear in 590 notes.
