  1. General Information
  2. This field contains the physical description of the item and information concerning accompanying material.

  3. Processing Instructions
  4. Accept copy as found unless there is an obvious error that would make copy a questionable match. Checking the last page number to verify a match is required, but verification of preliminary paging is optional. It is not necessary to verify 300|b, but correct if obviously wrong. When copy provides more information than is required, accept copy as found.

Loose Plates: When there are separate illustrations partially glued to a page of the item, insert a Preservation Flyer with Paste plates written in the Special Instructions area.

    LC CIP

Complete the 300 field in CIP records. Use Bibliographic Processing Cataloging Rules for 300 as a guide.

    Oversized Items

An item is oversized when it measures 31 cm. or more in height or width. When measuring an item, always round up (e.g., 30.1 cm. rounds up to 31 cm.). See below for exceptions.

    Q (Quarto):31-41 cm.
    F (Folio):42 cm. and over

    CCL Locations

DO NOT USE the oversize symbols for CCL locations with the exception of Fayette N... class call numbers.

    University Park Locations

Add a space and the oversized designation Q or F as the last element of the call number for University Park locations when the size of the item falls into the oversize range.

    Exceptions:

    • Do NOT add Q or F to call numbers for juvenile items in the Education & Behavioral Sciences Library.
    • Do NOT add Q or F to Cat as sep, class together call numbers.

Note: All Arts & Humanities Folios should be assigned PATTEE-W2F Home Location in UP-PAT Library. Item type should be BOOK. Material does circulate.

Architecture Library Oversized measurements are 29-41 cm. due to compact shelving size.

Items requiring binding must be considered Oversized if they measure 30 cm. or Folio if they measure 41 cm. as the binding will add to their size.

    Pattee Map Locations Variation

For all Pattee Map Collection locations, assign F to any item 36 cm. and over in width. Rules for height are the same for all locations.

    Accompanying Material

When copy has a plus sign " + " preceding |e, retain it. Add if missing from copy. See BPCR 300, Accompanying Material.
