Rec_Type: Type of record (LDR/06) M
Most of our material will be "e".
Most of our material will be "m", the default.
Essentially all of our items will be "[blank]".
All of our new records will be "a", which is the default. If we need to use [blank] it will be for a special project.
All of our local records will be [blank], no specified type, which is the default.
System supplied; don't mess with it. Don't confuse this with Date Cataloged, on the Control screen.
Dat_Tp: Type of Date (008/06) M
One-digit code to categorize the type of dates recorded, the same as we did for LIAS. The default is "s" for a single date, but change it when necessary.
Same as 260|c. Use a "u" for uncertain digits; for example, 260 |c[199-] would be 199u in Fixed Field.
Ctry: Place of Publication, production, or execution (008/15-17) IA
From the 260|a. Yes, we need to do this, and yes, it's a pain, and no, there isn't an acceptable default. Use the table in Cataloger's Desktop, or at the LC Web Site. Instructions are here, an alphabetical list of codes starts here. The code for US is a state code with a "u", so the code for any place in Pennsylvania would be pau.
Lang: Language code (008/35-37) M
The 3-digit language code. We do this now - the default will be eng, for English. Use the table in Cataloger's Desktop or on the LC Web site.
Essentially all of our records will be [blank] which is the default. For special projects we may have other codes, but if so we'll worry about it when we need to.
For our local records, the source will be "d" other, which is the default value.
Use up to four codes to describe the relief. If fewer than four codes are used, leave the unused places blank. If more than four types of relief are present, choose the four most important.
Prim_Mer: Old code; we won't input. Will be merged into Proj.
Rec_Grp: Type of Cartographic Material (008/25)
A one-character code that indicates the type of nonbook cartographic item described in the bibliographic record. Most of our records will be "a", the default, but change as needed.
A one-character code that indicates whether the item is published or produced by or for a Government Agency, and, if so, the jurisdictional level of the agency. [Blank] will be the default, but we will need to change this when a map is published by a Government Agency.
A one-character code that indicates whether the item or accompanying material includes a location index or gazetteer. The default is "0," no index; change when there is an index present.
Up to two one-character codes that indicate the special format characteristics of the map. Codes are recorded in order of their importance to the described item. If only one code is assigned, it is left justified and the unused position contains a blank. Many of our items will be [blank], but watch out for weird formats.
