Treat a replacement as a New Title if it is not an exact match to the item it is replacing and we do not have any other copies of that edition/version in The CAT. Import copy or possibly replace an order record if present.
Treat a replacement as an Added Location, using the Call Number and Item Maintenance wizard in the Java Client to add it to The CAT, if it is not an exact match to the item being replaced but another matching record in The CAT is found for the replacement edition/version with at least one other active holding whose Library is different than that of the replacement item.
Treat a replacement as an Added Copy (Item), using the Add Item or the Call Number and Item Maintenance wizard to add it to The CAT if it is an exact match to the item being replaced or an exact match to any other item in the system that is already owned by the same Library.
Do Not delete or overwrite holdings for replaced items. If the item being replaced has "Lost" or "Missing" as the Home Location, leave it as such. If it is still showing as available, check to make sure it really is missing with Lending Services and have them change the Home Location as appropriate. Use the "WITHDRAWN" Home Location when the item to be replaced is in hand. Designate it as "WITHDRAWN" in The CAT, and discard.
