Complete Refer
  • English language monograph items (books and/or surrogates) having full (i.e., Enc_Lvl: [blank], 1, I, L, 4 - sometimes 8) LC or OCLC copy; Include items from the following categories:

    • juvenile book not for Education and Behavioral Sciences Library, except PZ8.7 - PZ10 (refer)
    • Z class call number present which is below Z5000
    • Class together call number present if it can be established that the owning location uses the class together # (e.g., a campus has noted on a CRC form/surrogate that the item should be classed together and has supplied the class together call #)

  • PromptCat items including dup records resolutions

  • Replacements - Treat as new title or added location if not exact match to item being replaced; treat as volume added if exact match to item being replaced. Do not delete or overwrite holdings for replaced items but use the "Withdrawn" home location when directed to do so by holding library. When the item to be replaced is in hand, designate it as "Withdrawn" in The CAT, no matter the lost code, and discard.

  • Added locations (use Add Volumes and Call Numbers Wizard) for the following types of items:

    • monograph books/surrogates as outlined above
    • art/museum exhibition book when the item in hand has already been fully cataloged for another location
    • conferences/proceedings when the item in hand has already been fully cataloged for another location
    • set volumes when the volume in hand has already been cataloged and added to the bibliographic record for another location
    • book with disk/disc or other accompanying material when the item in hand has already been fully cataloged for another location; verify accompanying material against descriptive fields in bib record

  • English language monograph items lacking full or exact copy in MARC or OCLC (i.e., Enc Lvl: 2, 3, 5, 7, K, M, sometimes 8) or having full LC or OCLC copy but falling into one of the following categories:

    • art/museum exhibition book/catalog if new title
    • book with disc/disk or other accompanying material if new title or if disc, etc., not noted
    • conference proceedings if new title
    • juvenile fiction or picture book for E&BS Library; items for other locations with PZ8.7 - PZ10
    • on-demand photocopies such as UMI material
    • Z class call number present which is Z5000 or above
    • Class together call number present when it cannot be established that the owning location uses the class together #
    • Lacks valid 6XX when invalid headings deleted

  • PromptCat items lacking full copy or falling into categories which are to be referred to Cataloging

  • Foreign language monograph items - includes items with Parallel titles and Added Title page titles in a language other than English

  • New set titles and added set volumes which have not already been cataloged for another location

  • Atlases (Geographical, Nautical and Astronomical) - if in doubt about any item having maps, refer it to the Maps Team

  • Computer files

  • Maps - refer to Maps Team

  • Microfilm/microfiche

  • Scores, recordings, new video titles - refer to Music/AV Team

  • Serials - refer to Serials Team

  • Special Collections Library items - refer to Special Collections Team
