Team Organization
he Special Collections Cataloging Team began life as The Rare Materials Cataloging Team in August, 1995, when the Cataloging Department adopted a tentative Team structure. The structure was officially sanctioned on April 1, 1996, and we began conducting ourselves as a Team. In June, 2000, we agreed to accept responsibility for all of Special Collections, and thus evolved into the Special Collections Cataloging Team.

he Special Collections Cataloging Team meets on an ongoing basis with members of Special Collections. The purpose of our meetings is to discuss and decide policy and procedure, share and resolve interesting problems encountered in current processing, receive background about materials from Special Collections personnel, and discuss items referred to us by Cataloging Services. Meetings may be called or cancelled as needed; informal gatherings and electronic communication supplement our discussion/decision network.
e support Cataloging's policy of open meetings, and circulate both our agenda and meeting minutes to the Cataloging Department. Any member of the Department is encouraged to attend any of our meetings, at their discretion.
eam decisions are made by consensus, after discussion among all interested Team members; emphasis is given to members with 100% commitment.
ur Team Leader rotates among staff personnel with 100% commitment to the Team. The Team Leader is responsible for collecting agenda items, scheduling meetings, and facilitating meetings. The Team Leader also represents The Special Collections Cataloging Team concerns in other areas.
inutes are recorded for all meetings on a volunteer basis, generally a staff member with 100% commitment to the Team. Minutes officially record discussions, decisions, and announcements, and provide a valuable record for the Team as well as a significant communications tool with other Teams in Cataloging Services. They are approved via email by all meeting participants before being shared with the Department. Archived Team minutes are available from 1995.
