Penn State is now independent for personal names; we do not have to have our personal name authority records reviewed by our NACO trainer. We will still do an internal review of all authority records before they are added to the national authority file. Any other issues regarding personal names (reporting Bibliographic File Maintenance, requesting LC to delete a record, asking LC a question, or anything you are uncertain about) should still be reported through our trainer.

Please follow this procedure:

1. Continue to send your records to Rob or Sue as before. Send separate lists of personal names and of other headings.
2. For personal names: When Rob or Sue returns your records and you are satisfied that they are finished, do a final search in the OCLC authority file and ADD or REPLACE the record. Remember to include it in your statistics.
3. For other names: When Rob or Sue returns your records and you have made any needed changes, send the list of record numbers to me to send to Mary Charles (same as before). Also include any personal name records that require her attention as noted above (BFM, etc.).

I plan to call a meeting of NACO contributors (and other original catalogers) the first or second week in December. We will go over the procedure and I hope to have more information about where we stand on non-personal names. We will also use this meeting to do an overview of the changes to AACR2 that LC is implementing next week.
