Show Only Site Window on Startup If you are going to be working with files using templates or serving as co-editor to any files on a site, it is recommended that you choose this option so that your Site Manager window opens when you start up Dreamweaver. A blank file, which is the default, will not open.
Note: Do NOT nest sites (e.g., don't create a site for Cataloging and another for your team only). When creating sites, map to the highest level (e.g., tas/cataloging/, tas/acquisitions, etc.). That is where the Templates folder is created.

Change Workspace ... Choose between the Dreamweaver MX Workspace and the Dreamweaver 4 Workspace. This is a matter of personal preference.

- Accessibility
Offscreen Rendering
- Code Coloring
- Okay to accept defaults.
- Code Format
- Okay to accept defaults. You may want to make sure that the option for automatic wrapping is checked. Use DIV tag for centering. Other options are personal preference.
- Code Hints
- Okay to accept defaults. You may want to uncheck Enable Auto Tag Completion if you do not want Dreamweaver to insert ending command tags when you're entering code. While the auto completion can be helpful when creating new documentation, it can be aggravating when updating existing documentation.
- Code Rewriting
- My recommendation is to check all boxes.
- CSS Styles
- Okay to accept defaults.
- File Types / Editors
- Open in Code View: If you want to be able to edit/create style sheets in Dreamweaver's easy wizard interface, delete .cs and .css from the box.
Editors: If you have additional editors like Photoshop, add them to the list and choose a primary editor.

- Okay to accept defaults. Personal preference decision.

- Invisible Elements
- Okay to accept defaults. Personal preference decision. My preference is to see marks for everything.

- Panels
- Okay to accept defaults. Personal preference decision. My preference to have everything checked.
- Preview in Browser
- Internet Explorer should already be listed (iexplore). Add Netscape to the list, since you should look at your pages in both browsers. To do this, click on the plus sign (+) and then Browse in the window that pops open to find your Netscape program. It probably is in C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\Netscp.exe. Prefer IE as your Primary browser. I also like to Preview Using Temporary File.
- Quick Tag Editor
- Okay to accept defaults. My preference is to have both options checked.
- Site Review the following options:
- Always Show: Choose to have either your Local or Remote files show on the right/left. This is a personal preference decision. The Local files are the files you will be working with. The Remote files are the files on the Web server.
For people who chose the Dreamweaver 4 Workspace, you will automatically see both sets of files, Local and Remote, when you open the Site Manager. For those who chose the Dreamweaver MX Workspace, you will only see one set of files at a time, Local or Remote, unless you click on the Expand/Collapse icon in the Site Manager window.
Dependent Files: My personal preference is to be Prompted.
- Status Bar
- Okay to accept defaults.
- Validator
- Okay to accept defaults.
