Department and team pages are currently using templates and managed with Site Manger in Dreamweaver. Assistance with setting up/working with Site Manager is readily available - just ask, as is assistance with editing the PSU mark to blend in properly with background color and creating a team/site name in Photoshop (i.e., I've been doing this a long time, so feel free to ask questions or for help).
- Dreamweaver MX Preferences Local
- Dreamweaver places templates in Template folder at top level of defined site. Accept template placement and create/define site with tas/cataloging, tas/acquisitions, etc. as top level.
- Do NOT nest defined sites. This causes problems within Dreamweaver.
- Do not place style sheet in same folder as templates.
- Use of style sheet is strongly recommended, especially to replace styles created by use of font tags, which are being deprecated (e.g., font color=, font family=, etc.). Style sheets are easily created/edited in Dreamweaver.
- Data tables should meet ADA requirements (e.g., use "scope" attribute for row and column headers).
- Include width, height and alt text for all images.
- Features of the Templates being used for Department pages:
- University/Libraries guidelines for Web pages, including ADA requirements, have been incorporated into template.
- PSU mark, University Libraries, Cataloging Services and Team/Site Name at top of page are mapped and hyperlinked to corresponding sites.
- PSU mark can easily be made to blend into different background colors with Photoshop. Team/Site name can also be easily created in Photoshop.
- Navigation bar color is optional, but contrast between bar color and bar link color should be great enough to meet ADA requirements (e.g., dark background, light text; light background, dark text).
- Quick Ref drop down is optional and customizable. Note that if site contains sublevels, absolute links are recommended as, unlike other links within template which are relative to template location, the form links for drop down are relative to actual page location.
- Body content is entirely customizable, but keep in mind Style Guides and ADA requirements.
- Tables have been used to format the layout. When you make an edit to the Template and Save, a message will appear saying, "You have placed the editable region inside a ‹P› tag or other block tag. Users of this template will not be able to create new paragraphs in this region. Move the region outside the ‹P› tag if you wish to allow this." You can ignore this and just click on OK to continue.
