Also see the Unicorn Notes home page for additional server information and training user ids and passwords.
If you have the 2006 staff workstation image:
- Go to roo\shared\public\JavaClientGL3.1. (This should be mapped to K:)
- Using Windows Explorer, drag the "Workflows GL3.1J" shortcut to your "All Users" desktop folder (i.e., C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop), NOT you personal desktop. Optionally, copy/paste it into the folder. (You can also access/copy/paste the shortcut via My Computer.)
- Double-click the new WorkFlows Java Client shortcut, which should now be on your desktop, to use the Java Client program.
- If you receive an error message on the first try (e.g., failed to connect to the host dev-...), click on OK and open the program a second time. A Configuration window should appear.
- Input the IP Address and Port number for the server you are trying to connect to in the appropriate boxes. If you are connecting to the live Production server, input the following:
| Production Server |
| IP Address: | workflows.libraries.psu.edu |
| Port Number | 5100 |
(See logon tables for more information.)
- The Workstation Name box may say "Floating display," or that may be the only choice in the dropdown menu, when the program is first opened. If that is the case, you will not be able to change it from the "Floating" option until after you login. At that time you will be able to change it to "PCGUI-EDIT" or "PCGUI-DISPLAY" from the Preference/Configuration menu. Catalogers should choose PCGUI-EDIT.
- If you are setting up the Java Client on a workstation with a receipt printer (i.e., a Circ station), you will need to input a different Workstation name and make some other changes once you login completely. [A link to these instructions will be added soon.]
- Check the box to "Show this window on next startup" if you want to see the Configuration window each time you open the WorkFlows Java Client.
- Click on OK
- At the Login window, input your User ID and PIN and click OK. See the logon tables if you're unsure how to login.
- If you are accessing the Java Client for the first time or need to perform a periodic update, you will now see an Automatic Update window appear. Continue following the instructions below, picking up at the fourth bulleted item, to update the Java Client.
If you are accessing the Java Client for the first time, you will probably need to perform a client update after inputting your User ID and PIN and clicking OK. You will also periodically have to perform updates as various patch clusters are loaded for the client.
- Double-click to open the WorkFlows Java Client.
- Click OK on the Configuration window after making sure the IP address, Port number and other information is correct.
- Input your User ID and PIN in the Login window and click OK.
- [Continue here from above if performing an update immediately after setting up the Java Client for the first time.]
If a client update is available, after you click OK on the Login window, you will see an Automatic Update window appear prompting to "Update Staff Client" and a choice of "Yes" or "No." Click Yes.
- You will see a "Progress - Downloading file" message display briefly before another message saying "Staff client is exiting. Restart to install." Click on OK. It doesn't want you to restart your computer, just the Java Client.
- Double-click on the Java Client to open it again. Once you do, you will see the WinZip Self-Extractor extracting files. Let it run without clicking on anything. When it's done, the blue Install screen will appear.
- Click NEXT.
- Click YES at the License agreement window.
- Wait while files are copied to your computer.
- If you get the message "'custom' file found, custom.jar will not be overwritten," click on OK.
- Click OK when you see the message "Install will now launch the WorkFlows Client ..."
- If the splash screen for the Java Client appears right away, it may cover the FINISH button on the install screen before you have a chance to click on it. Click on a blue area of the Install screen so that it brings it to the front. Click on the FINISH button.
- Log into the Java Client as usual.
If, when you first set up the Java Client shortcut, you dragged it to your personal desktop instead of placing it in the All Users desktop, you probably ended up with multiple Java Client icons showing on your desktop after opening it for the first time and/or after running your first update of the client. You may have ended up with 2 or even 4 copies of the shortcut, 2 of which may have disappeared at some point (they were invalid "phantom" icons). One of the remaining 2 icons is the one in your personal desktop folder (i.e., C:\Documents and Settings\[Your User ID]\Desktop) and the other was placed in the All Users desktop folder when the client was initially updated (i.e., C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop).
To get down to one copy of the WorkFlows Java Client shortcut, and prevent more multiples from appearing with future client updates, delete the copy that is in your personal desktop folder (i.e., C:\Documents and Settings\[Your User ID]\Desktop). You want to keep only the copy that is in the All Users desktop folder (i.e., C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop). You can do this through Windows Explorer or My Computer.
