Read the description of the Helper below from the WorkFlows Online Help, then see the example following it.
List the Catalog by Call Number HelperThe List the Catalog by Call Number helper is used to display all of the call number records in your library's system that share the same call number or portion of a call number. This feature is useful when assigning call numbers and finding materials using specific class numbers.
You may display the catalog by call number at any time when using the wizard. Enter the call number or portion of call number that you want to search in the Start List With field. Do not enter any truncation symbol for a call number portion, but be sure to properly capitalize and punctuate the call number you enter. Any call number that includes the text will be retrieved. The records that are retrieved may not be displayed in call number order.
Example:
If you listed the catalog for call numbers including KF4, a sampling of call numbers would be listed in the following order.
KF410 .K9
KF4114 .D76
KF418 .A22
KF4546 .S9
KF49 .L54Note: To browse only your own library collection in shelflist order, browse by call number using the Item Lookup.
After a list is retrieved, you may select to view the bibliographic, volume, and copy information, look up another call number, or close the helper.

Example:
When using one of the Title Maintenance or Volume and Call Number Maintenance Wizards, with the exception of the Remove Title etc. Wizard, and you have a record open, the List the Catalog by Call Number Helper (1) may be used.
The call number assigned to the copy you are viewing will be placed in the List Catalog By Call Number: Start List With box (2),
unless you are viewing a new record which hasn't yet been saved, in which case the box will be empty. If the call number placed in the box is not truncated before clicking the OK button (a call number from a new record may be copied and pasted into the box by using Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V or the Edit menu), chances are good that the resulting Display Call Number List will only include that same call number and title, unless it is a duplicate call number (including the date). As long as the call number in the box is unique and is from a saved record, no other call number will display in the resulting list (3).
When using the helper on a new record that hasn't yet been saved and the call number is unique, an error message will appear after clicking OK saying that the item was not found in the catalog; however, the base call number may still be a duplicate.
If the call number placed in the box is truncated to some degree - no truncation symbol is necessary (e.g., PS121.L53), chances are greater that the resulting list will contain more numbers. Deleting the date from a call number will give you a list of numbers with the same base call number, if any exist, such as that of an edition (4a) or of a duplicate call number (4b), in addition to the number that was truncated (4c).
The more a call number is truncated (e.g., PS121.L), the less likely it is to be unique, and the greater the chance that a longer Display Call Number List will be generated. The resulting list can be used to determine if the item is shelving in the correct subject area and will also show duplicate numbers.
As stated above, the records retrieved may not display in the proper call number order, but the record you started with should be amongst them (5a). To view a particular record from the list, click on a title to highlight it (5b), then click on the View button (5c). If the Lookup Another Call Number button (5d) is clicked, the highlighted call number will be placed into the List Catalog By Call Number: Start List With box that appears. When finished shelflisting, click on Close or Cancel as appropriate and continue cataloging.
