1. Loading Options

  1. In Workflows, click on the Preference menu.

  2. Click on SmartPort settings...

  3. Make sure that Verify Options is checked. If you uncheck this you will not be able to change information in SmartPort when the Load Bibliographic Options Window comes up.

  4. Fill in the appropriate information. The figure at right has the most common values filled in for monographic copy cataloging.

2. Searching Options

  1. In SmartPort, click on the Preference menu.

  2. Click on Search mode

  3. Leave the Search Syntax as Z39.58 Syntax. Choose either a Phrase search or a Word search. Phrase search behaves like a browse search and Word search behaves like a keyword search. Use the Word search when connected to OCLC for number searches (e.g. ISBN, LCCN, etc.).

3. Display Options

  1. In SmartPort, click on the Preference menu.

  2. Click on Search limits

  3. Change the settings to your preferences.
    • Single-server limit is the number of hits to display when connected to one server.
    • Multi-server limit is the number of hits to display when connected to multiple servers.
    • Browse terms limit is the number of browse terms to display when using the Browse search (this does not work in any of our connections, so ignore it).
    • Number of brief fields to display is the number of fields that will display for each hit. The maximum number is four and these have been set to 100, 245, 260, and 040.
