How
do I request items from Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary Loan supports the research needs of Penn State faculty, staff and students.
Use ILLiad to request books and articles from libraries outside Penn State, articles from print journals not located at your campus and for annexed or items that the "I Want It" does not work in the CAT
To use ILLiad, you will need to authenticate using your Penn State Access Account ID and password.
Interlibrary
Loan reserves the right to limit the number of requests processed per day for an individual. We feel it is important to provide quality service to all patrons in need of
ILL materials. Prioritizing a large number of requests will enable us to know which requests are most urgently needed.

Are there other ways to request from Interlibrary Loan?
Use E-ZBorrow to search regional academic catalogs. You need to authenticate with your Penn State Access Account ID and password. When your book arrives at Penn State, you will be notified about pick-up.
You can request from WorldCat and from many databases.
What
is an easy way to search Big Ten catalogs?
Use CIC University Libraries (Big Ten) to search one, several or all of the Big Ten catalogs. Requests to borrow the material can be made directly by using the Get it! button. ILL will notify you when the material arrives and is available for pick-up.

How
will I be notified and how long does it take?
Patrons are notified by e-mail when their material has arrived. Articles are posted to your ILLiad Account. Books are picked up at your designated pick up location.
Please
allow us 1-2 weeks to obtain your material. 90% of requests arrive
within this time frame. You can review the status of your request from within ILLiad under view/Modify Outstanding Requests. The status of E-ZBorrow books is within MyLibrary Account.
Delivery
time is dependent on the lending libraries ability to supply the material,
as well as method of delivery.

Are
there any restrictions on use of Interlibrary Loan materials?
Yes,
the lending library establishes the due date for the material. There
is no standard loan period.
Restrictions
on the use of Interlibrary Loan materials are also placed on the material
by the lending library. We are obliged to abide by these restrictions.
Restrictions may include:
- In
Library Use Only
- No
Copying
- No
Renewals
- Rare
Books Room Use Only

What
is the Interlibrary Loan renewal policy?
You may
request a renewal on any Interlibrary Loan material, as long as the "No
Renewals" restriction has not been placed on the material by the lending library.
Renewals
should be requested before the due date. ILL will submit the renewal request to the lending library on the due date. You will be notified if a renewal has been granted.
As long
as the material is not "library use only" you will be able
to keep the item until you are notified of the response. If the item
is "library use only" it will be kept at the Circulation
Desk for your use until a response is received from the lender.
- Renewals
cannot be placed on overdue materials!
- We
are unable to grant second renewals.

What
is the policy on overdue materials or recalled materials?
All Interlibrary
Loan material is subject to recall by the lending institution. Recalled items should be returned to the Circulation Desk immediately. Overdue policies go into effect the day the recall is sent to you.
Patrons having
overdue ILL material will receive an overdue notice. If the material
is not returned after 2 weeks, the item is presumed lost and you will
be billed for the replacement cost of the item plus a nonrefundable
processing fee. Your Libraries' privileges may also be blocked. Patrons
are held responsible for any overdue fees assessed by the lending
institution.
If you
receive an overdue notice from Interlibrary Loan and have returned
the material within the past 3 days, you should disregard the notice.

How
much will this service cost me?
There is no cost for standard Interlibrary Loan service. Patron approval is always sought when special circumstances require the patron to pay for the cost of obtaining an item. Patrons will be assessed fees for late, damaged or lost material.

Where
should I return my Interlibrary Loan material?
All loaned
material should be returned to the Circulation Desk or to the library service
point where it was picked up on or before the due date.

May
I go to other universities to look at materials in their collections?
Penn State University Libraries participates in several arrangements which allow this
type of activity.

What
should I do if I think the libraries should purchase a particular
book?
If you
want to recommend a book or other material for purchase, or if
you
have questions about the collections, you may contact any of our Collection
Development Specialists.
You can
also email your suggestion to BUYBOOKS@psulias.psu.edu.
