2002: University Libraries offers ILL Purchase Express -
a service that purchases books requested on Interlibrary Loan for
users and adds them to the Libraries' permanent collection after the
user's loan period.
Acquisitions
Services and Interlibrary Loan have teamed-up to provide this new
service. ILL Purchase Express identifies books requested through Interlibrary
Loan for possible purchase. Book requests meeting established criteria
are given to Acquisitions Services who place an order with a vendor
within 24 hours. Expected delivery of the book from the vendor is
within 6 working days. Once the book is received, it is rush processed
and hand delivered to Lending Services to be placed on hold for the
user.
This service is
available for current Penn State faculty, staff and students. Users
are notified that their book request is a possible purchase and has
been forwarded to Acquisitions Services. If the book cannot be received
withing 6 working days, the request is supplied through Interlibrary
Loan.
User
survey responses have expressed satisfaction with the new service,
indicating approval with both arrival time and the selection as a
permanent addition in the Libraries' collection.
