Announcing . . .
John Locke Tercentenary, 2004
The year 2004 is the tercentenary of Lockes death on October 28, 1704. There have been a number of conferences celebrating this occasion. At this point, I have listed papers from the following conferences:
- Locke, les idées et les choses: Journée internaitonale détudes pour le tricentenaire de John Locke, Centre dHistoire de la Philosophie Moderne, 23 janvier 2004; coordination: Luisa Simonutti.
- John Locke Tercentenary Conference, St. Annes College, Oxford, 2-4 April 2004; sponsored by the British Society for the History of Philosophy; organized by G.A.J. Rogers.
- Civility, philosophy and public debate : a conference marking the 300th anniversary of the death of John Locke (1632-1704), Centre for Public Culture and Ideas, Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia, July 12, 2004.
- Reconsiderations of John Lockes Life and Philosophy on the 300th Anniversary of His Death, Midwest American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies meeting, St. Louis, Missouri, October 10, 2004.
- John Locke Day Programme, Department of Philosophy, University of Bristol, October 23, 2004.
- John Locke through the centuries : assessing the Lockean legacy, 1704-2004, Beinecke Library, Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, October 28-30, 2004.
In addition, there have been a number of articles noting and celebrating the occasion, such as those by Richard Yeo in The Australian, David Armitage in TLS, and Mark Goldie in History today.
I would welcome further information about conferences, papers, or publications related to the Locke Tercentenary. I would like the John Locke Bibliography to include a reasonably complete record of relevant material.
