Locke died at Oates on 28 October 1704. His last days were described by Pierre Coste, who was present, in a letter published in Nouvelles de la république des lettres for February 1705.
Other obituaries appeared later the same year, as did the first article in a biographical dictionary [Locke #692; perhaps by Lady Masham]. The most estensive biographical notice, however, and the basis for subsequent biography down to 1829, was the Eloge de feu Mr. Locke. The author was Lockes friend Jean Le Clerc, who based his work on his own extensive acquaintance with Locke and on letters from Lady Masham and the third Earl of Shaftesbury. The final item in this section is a collection of poems by Isaac Watts, three of which dealt with Locke.

A supplement to the great historical, geographical, genealogical and poetical dictionary. (1705)
Before his death, Locke wrote instructions for his cousin and heir Peter King
regarding certain unpublished works. The first of these posthumous publications to appear was a set
of paraphrase and notes on the Epistles of St. Paul, the fruits of Lockes biblical studies
during his later years and of his disputes with Edwards and Stillingfleet.
The paraphrases of each of the five Epistles were brought out separately between 1705 and 1707,
then reissued with a collective title page and an introductory essay
in which Locke explained his method of reading and interpreting St. Paul.
A paraphrase and notes was frequently reprinted during the eighteenth century and had several imitators.
The Essay for the understanding of St. Pauls Epistles which Locke wrote as
an introduction to the work was also reprinted, both by itself and with other works.
