Laptop computers are available for loan to registered students, faculty and staff from the Reserves service desk.
- Students, faculty and staff must present a valid Penn State ID to borrow laptop computers.
- Laptops are available for 24 hour in-house use or 7-day loan. Laptops loaned for 24 hours must remain in the Library. If borrowed on a day that the Library closes, 24 hour loan must be returned within 30 mintues of closing. Laptops borrowed for 7 days may leave the building.
- 7-day loan laptops not returned to the Reserves service Desk within 7 days will be subject to overdue fees of $25.00/day for each day overdue. Laptops not returned before the date due may be presumed lost and replacement fees of $2,500 in addition to overdue fees, may be assessed.
- Upon return, all laptops are re-imaged and any files or programs saved to the laptop during use are deleted and cannot be retrieved. Always make copies of your work before returning the laptop.
You are responsible for any laptop borrowed on your card. Do not leave laptops unattended for any length of time. Report any hardware or software problems to the Reserves service desk immediately.

Library laptops are wireless-ready. Users with personal laptops must have Virtual Private Network (VPN) software installed in order to connect.

If your file is too large to fit on a floppy, save it to your PASS space
Note: Default PASS space allocation is 500 MB!

To connect:
- Open your browser and go to https://portal.psu.edu/
- Click on Log into your Portal and login using your Access ID and Password
- Under portal default settings, a Penn State Access Account Storage Space channel should appear on your portal homepage. (If you do not see this channel, scroll to the top of the screen and click on Add Channels. In Categories, choose Access Account Services. In Channels, choose Penn State Access Account Storage Space)
- On your portal homepage, click on PASS Explorer
- To save a file from your laptop to your PASS space:
- Save the file to the laptop hard drive (tip - just save it to the desktop)
- In the PASS Explorer window, click on Upload File
- Key in the filename and location, or click Browse and select the file
- Click Upload to save the file
You should now be able to access the file from any other workstation by accessing your PASS space online (follow steps 1-4 above, select the correct filename and click on View File) or
on the network (Go to Instructions for Mounting Your PASS Via the PASS Gateway for more information).

You can now print any document to a library network printer from a library workstation or laptop
Note: Save your document to a floppy disk or to your PASS space (see left) before printing
- Go to File, Print
- At the UnipriNT Client prompt, enter your Access ID
- At the next prompt, enter your Access Account Password twice
- Go to a Network Printer Station
- Insert your PSU ID+ card (you must have credit on your card to print!)
- Login to a Printer Station using your Access ID and password
- Click on your print job name to select
- Click on the Print button
- When finished, click Exit. Your ID card will automatically be ejected. Please do not attempt to remove your ID card manually!
