This collection of personal papers of Albert Hurwitz consists primarily of international children's graphic-artwork representing the United States, Egypt, England, France, Finland, Guatemala, Israel, Iran, India, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Taiwan, USSR, China, Hungary, Qatar, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Australia, Armenia, Bosnia, Croatia, Brazil, Cyprus, Czech Republic, and Barbuda. Some themes explored in the work are: Noah's Ark, War and Crisis, Birthday parties, Recess and Play, Harbors, Amusement Parks, Supermarkets, Shopping, Traffic, Storms, Zoos, Sports and Family.

Biographical or Historical Note

Albert Hurwitz (born 1920) is a native of Maryland and holds an MFA in theatre from Yale University as well as a doctorate in Art Education from the Pennsylvania State University. During his career, Hurwitz was Director of Visual and Performing Arts for Newton, Massachusetts schools, taught art education at Harvard University Graduate School of Education, Ohio State University, Teachers College, Columbia University, Brandeis University, and the Massachusetts College of Art, has been very active in the international art education scene, serving as president of the International Society for Education through Art from 1975-78 and served as Chair and Graduate Director at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), developing the Masters in Teaching (MAT) program.
