Biographical or Historical Note
Four Penn State University professors in architecture and landscape architecture, Don Leon, John Lucas, Veronica Burns Lucas, and Eliza Pennypacker Oberholtzer, submitted a design for the Korean War Memorial in 1989. Their design was chosen from 542 entries. However, the project's architectural firm later altered the design without the professors' consent, leading to complications that caused the team to withdraw their design and delayed dedication of the memorial until 1995.
