Abstract:
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born August 28, 1749, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. In 1773 he provided the Sturm und Drang movement with its first major drama, and in 1774 with its first novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther. In 1775 he arrived at Weimar, where he was appointed to the ducal court and remained for the rest of his life. This collection contains various collected manuscripts related to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, including correspondence, poems, and artwork, including materials collected by Charles and Selina Bracebridge during their visit to Weimar, Germany to visit Goethe (1825-1826).

Biographical Note

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born August 28, 1749, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. In 1773 he provided the Sturm und Drang movement with its first major drama, and in 1774 with its first novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther. In 1775 he arrived at Weimar, where he was appointed to the ducal court and remained for the rest of his life. Goethe died on March 22, 1832 in Weimar.
