Course Objectives

After completing a module of this course, the student will be able to:

1) list the novel's main characters and describe their physical characteristics.

2) situate the 'where' and 'when' of the book.

3) compose written answers in concise, correct English to questions about the book, supplying evidence from the text in support of any interpretive or evaluative statements (e.g. "Ganin is an unpleasant person").

4) identify the themes in the novel that will be of central importance in Nabokov's later works.

(It is to be hoped, as well, that each participant will be a better reader after the course than s/he was before it.)

OK, let's take a look at the ground rules of the course.
