How do I find books?

Use The CAT , Penn State 's online catalog, to find books, CDs, and DVDs.

How do I find articles in magazines, journals, or newspapers?

Go to Try These First and select ProQuest or NewsBank for broad subject coverage.

How do I find out if a specific magazine or journal is full text online?

Check the Citation Linker.

How do I get a book from another Penn State campus?

When you see the description of the individual book displayed on The CAT screen, check the right side of the screen for the I WANT IT button, click that and fill in the requested information. This will not work on a screen that lists several books, you must be at the screen describing an individual book.

How do I get a film or video from another Penn State campus?

Just as you would order a book when you see the description of an individual item displayed on The CAT screen, check the right side of the screen for the I WANT IT button, click that and select a pickup location from the scrolling list. As before this will not work on a screen that lists several items, you must be at the screen describing an individual item. Videos may be checked out for 7 days.

For faculty who wish to reserve a video for a class for a specific date, contact Library staff.

How do I get materials that are not in the Penn State System?

How do I renew books?

Click on the My Library Account link in the gray bar at the top of Libraries web pages or in the CAT and follow the directions to renew books. The system will alert you if not all your books can be renewed. Or call the library, 610-396-6339.

How do I order articles if they are not full text online?

Use either a Get It button in a database or Citation Linker to see if an article is already available online or if it is in print at Berks. If not, stay in the Get it or Citation Linker dialog box and use ILLiad to request it. For more information, contact Margie Kruppenbach 610-396-6241, mjk9@psu.edu

How do I search Library databases from home?

Enter your Penn State ACCESS userid and password when prompted. Look up your userid and password at a CAC Signature Station computer in the library. If you have difficulty, contact the library at 610-396-6339.

How do I detect plagiarism?

Search unique language by doing a "phrase" search in Google ( http://www.google.com ) or one of the other search engines. For further information see Plagiarism Prevention Resources.

How do I get a library card?

Your Penn State student, faculty or staff id card is your library card.

How do I schedule library instruction?
