The photograph collection is one of the most heavily utilized collections in the Penn State University Archives. The collection contains approximately 500,000 images: black and white prints, color prints, oversized photos (larger than 8”x10”), color slides, photographic negatives, digital scans, and postcards.
There are several methods for obtaining copies of photographs:
Free public scanner located in the Special Collections Library Reference Room. This scanner can adjust to 150 dpi.
A personal camera or scanner with permission from a University Archives staff member.
University Archives staff can scan images at 300 dpi (and above) for a fee.
Commercial uses of photographs MUST BE approved by the University Archivist (or her designee). In some cases, University Licensing may also have to be consulted about appropriate uses and fees. Fees will be assessed for all commercial uses.
