On behalf of The Libraries the Access Services Council will consider matters of policy and management related to the physical access of library materials. The Council will develop policy that enhances both access to materials and the management of access to materials The Council may advise on or suggest initiatives that will promote access or improve access related services and activities for our users.
At Penn State material access to collections is facilitated by circulation systems including personal and course reserves via Sirsi Unicorn; Interlibrary Loan systems such as ILLiad, PALCI, and World Cat; shelving, inventory, storage and retrieval systems, reciprocal borrowing agreements, and assistive technology to aid users with disabilities. Materials include but are not limited to print, audio, video, digital content, and microformats.
Consideration of our various audiences and their needs is paramount to the work of the Council.
The Council is encouraged to engage in research and benchmarking activities that will inform their decision-making. They are asked to consult with a broad range of constituents in their work and to bring emerging issues to the fore as they arise.
