A Special Note for Faculty
We invite you and your students to the
University Libraries' Annual Fall Open House!
September 7th & 8th, 2016 (Wed. and Thurs.)
9 AM - 5 PM
in the University Park Libraries
Students need to bring their PENN STATE iD
(required to complete the event)
We welcome and encourage the participation of your students at this lively, fun event. Consider requiring attendance as a homework or extra credit assignment. In doing so, you will give your students an overview of our libraries and greater confidence in doing research, while still reserving valuable class time.
The Open House "tour" is self-guided and takes approximately 50 minutes or less to complete - and students can come and go as they please during the two days of the event. We'll provide certificates that students can return to you as proof of attendance.
Give your students the edge they deserve! In previous years, 96% of students participating in the Open House said that the event helped them to learn more about the Libraries' many resources and physical spaces. In the age of Google and Wikipedia, the Libraries’ Open House reinforces the importance of libraries in relation to student academic success.
After completion of the Libraries' Open House, students should be able to:
- effectively navigate the Libraries' physical spaces in order to locate needed resources and/or assistance from library staff and faculty;
- identify that the Libraries groups its collections, people, and resources into subject libraries in order to identify which subject library supports their major;
- recognize that there are a variety of online resources available to them, including the Libraries' homepage, subject guides, and the Ask a Librarian service; and
- feel comfortable approaching library faculty and staff for assistance.
