Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship shall be to recognize and to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students planning careers in the field of Library Science.
Amount of Fund: The principal of this fund is a portion of the proceeds received from the sale of securities, a gift to The Pennsylvania State University by Raymond N. Shibley, Class of 1947, in memory of his family and honors his mother, Adma Hamman Shibley, a member of the Pattee Library staff from 1945 to 1949.
Eligibility: First consideration for this scholarship shall be given to undergraduate students enrolled at the University identified as planning careers in and having a commitment to the field of Library Science; second consideration shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled in the College of the Liberal Arts.
Selection Procedure: Students receiving first consideration for this scholarship shall be selected by the scholarship committee of the College of the Liberal Arts upon the recommendation of the Dean of University Libraries and Scholarly Communications. Students receiving second consideration for this scholarship shall be selected by the scholarship committee of the College of the Liberal Arts. All scholarships awarded shall be approved by the Office of Student Aid.
Amount of Award: The number of scholarships awarded and the amount of each shall be determined by the selection committee and shall depend upon the amount of income accruing to the Adma Hamman Shibley Memorial Scholarship in Library Science with the provision that no scholarship shall be awarded for less than $500.
Scholarships shall be awarded from the annual earnings of this fund and any balance remaining in a particular year shall be returned to the principal.
Term of Award: Each scholarship shall be awarded for an academic year but may be renewed by the selection committee if the recipient continues to meet the conditions of eligibility and funds are available.
Amendment: The Board of Trustees of The Pennsylvania State University shall have the authority to make any changes in these guidelines which may be necessary to ensure the fulfillment of the above-stated objectives.
