Accessibility at the Abington Library

Accessible Entrances

Our library’s entrance is located on the first floor/100 Level of the Woodland Building. The building is in two section; our library is in the northernmost part, closest to Woodland Road.

Wheelchairs

N/A at this time.

Elevators

There is not an elevator for public use inside our library.

Users needing materials from our upper or lower levels should request them at our Circulation Desk and we’ll be happy to retrieve them. Anyone needing an elevator to reach our library entrance should enter the Woodland Building from the parking lot side (there is also a book drop and a sign for the library). Once inside the Woodland Building you will be on the second floor/200 Level. Proceed straight, past the main stairwell, then turn left to find the elevator. The library entrance is next to the elevator on the first floor/100 Level.

Restrooms

There are restrooms labeled as men’s and women’s on all three floors of the library, though they are not wheelchair accessible. The nearest accessible restrooms are in the Woodland Lobby, just outside the library’s entrance. The nearest gender-neutral restroom is in the Springhouse Building, next door to the Woodland Building.

Accessible Workstations

All library computers have JAWS for screen reading and ZoomText for screen magnification. The row of computers closest to the library’s entrance have Read&Write, which can read text and help with defining words, as well as Equatio, which is an accessibility tool for math assignments. Additionally, we have a computer with a high-contrast keyboard near the back of the library’s main floor. For assistance with any of this technology, please visit the Technology Support Center next to the library’s entrance.

Sensory and Neurodiversity Support

We have noise-blocking earmuffs available at the Circulation Desk for a 4-hour loan.

ADA Accessible Parking

There are eight ADA parking spaces outside of the Woodland Building. Anyone needing an elevator to reach our library entrance should enter the building using the door nearest the ADA parking spaces (there is also a book drop and a sign for the library). Once inside the Woodland Building you will be on the second floor/200 Level. Proceed straight, past the main stairwell, then turn left to find the elevator. The library entrance is next to the elevator on the first floor/100 Level.

Public Transit

The nearest public transit route is SEPTA Bus #55, which stops at the intersection of Old York Road/611 and Woodland Road, three blocks west of campus.
